Writing a resume is hard!
Creating your own resume can be a frustrating and often overwhelming writing experience, having to succinctly articulate your entire career onto 1 or 2 pages is not for the faint hearted.
Having a well structured, easy to read resume will make you look, and sound, like the professional you are.
Quantifying your achievements
The first thing The Career Box does with our clients is a fact finding mission to uncover any career achievements, accomplishments and wins from your career that you might have forgotten about.
A lot of people will include a generic, cookie cutter list of standard achievements including "hit sales targets" or "work well in a team" but these just don't cut it anymore. You need to prove that you can walk the walk and are good at what you do by quantifying your achievements. If you hit a sales target be more specific about the results and how you did it... for example;
"Successfully led a team of 6 sales consultants to deliver $86M sales target in FY19 through innovative, targeted, incentive strategies."
If you had a strong repeat customer rate you could write;
"Grew repeat customers to an average of X% of total sales per month through effective local community engagement"
If you have ever gone above and beyond, saved the business money, exceeded sales targets or improved efficiency then add it to your resume and be specific.
What information to include and what to leave out.
Keep the information on your resume relevant to the job you are applying for. It is important to research the company and tailor your resume to match. That doesn't mean lying on your resume about skills you don't have, it means keeping the skills that are required for the role in, and taking out the skills not required.
top tip: Utilise the keywords from the companies 'about us' page to stand out.
